SAM

SAM: Smart-assed masochist.

This can be a murky term. Some sadists like a playful or challenging response from the masochists with whom they play. But if dominance and submission are also part of the relationship it is usually unwelcome.

Often the masochist has a desire for strong sensation play and a very high level of pain tolerance. He may be mocking in an effort to get the other person to be more forceful.

I was a bit of a SAM a couple of times (I do have a high pain tolerance) but realized that I was undermining the whole dominance and submission framework in which we were working and that would lead to neither of us ever getting what we wanted.
