Bottom: the person who takes direction from the top.
The advantage of the term is that it escapes the baggage brought to words like submissive or slave. A person may act as a bottom in only specialized or limited contexts and ways according to their needs.
In gay male relationships it is often used without implications of power exchange for a sex partner who is anally penetrated.
As with most labels it requires qualification to have useful meaning.
